Initially Gatton House was built for the mountaineer and barrister Sir Claud Schuster in 1901. Over the decades it finally landed up becoming the perfect weekend or holiday break. There is a total of 8 rooms with a large central lounge area that offers a decent collection of books, tourist information and maps for visitors.
The terrace outside offers an excellent view of the countryside and serves as the ideal spot to enjoy a cup of tea.
Breakfasts are served complimentary to all guests and are cooked to order. We offer traditional English breakfast plus have vegetarian options too. Parking is off-street and in our own private parking area with one bay allotted to each room.
Do not confuse us for a simple guest house though because our facilities and services are at par with some of the best hotels. We provide evening meals and much more. For information on nearby shops, pubs, restaurants and cafes, check the Near Attractions page.
Gatton House is located in a very quaint location close to the centre of West Lulworth. It is in the vicinity of the Village Church, few thatched cottages and the Purbeck Hills.
Word of Caution, because we are on an elevated location, customers who face difficulty walking might find the commute on foot a bit tedious.
You can find the Jurassic Coast as well as the South West Coast Path at arm’s length from the guesthouse. With zero cell reception, take a stroll down to the beach and relax as you see the sunset or take in an early sunrise. Dorset has plenty of attractions too if you feel the need for them.
